This section contains some general concepts that are important to understanding the strategies used in this route. It is strongly recommended to read this before starting.
General advisories
- It is recommended to use all 4 save slots on your cart, so that you can potentially reverse any big mistakes. Be sure to get into the habit of saving often. This run is very item-heavy, and you don't want to lose progress to flubbed shop inputs (asciipad users beware).
- These notes have been routed such that pretty much any luck-based scenario out of your control is accounted for. However, due to limited inventory space, these notes have NOT been routed to account for user error. Backup strategies to recover from failure to follow the notes are not provided. Be especially careful to follow the notes.
- With the above in mind, you can generally continue to use Jump with Mario at your own discretion if a battle doesn’t end when you expect it to. No further specific instructions for this are provided.
- There is functionally no difference between the North American and Japanese versions of the game. The Japanese version has faster text speed, making some RNG manips easier and saving time. This guide details all X menus, option selects, and battle strategies in both languages. Following this guide should allow you to successfully complete a run in either version. The companion practice save pack is only compatible with the Japanese version.
Things you ABSOLUTELY MUST be able to do, and should practice beforehand if you can’t
This is a list of tech that will hard block you in Low Level if you get to a point where you need to do them and weren’t expecting them / don’t know how to do them. All of these are explained in greater detail further on.
It is recommended to download the practice save pack and practice these things.
